Argus is a living plant with nano sensors inside its leaves that continuously monitor water for heavy metal impurities. Nanometer scale chemical-based sensors are injected inside the leaves through pressure injection. These sensors produce a visible glow on the leaf of a plant. Argus, a bio-hybrid plant, naturally samples water in the environment and any impurities that come along with it. When lead impurities from the environment come in contact with these sensors, the florescence is quenched to indicate that there are impurities in the environment.

Harpreet Sareen is a scientist, artist and educator based in New York. His work is situated at the intersection of Material Science, Biology and Electronics and draws on the complementary abilities of the biological and artificial worlds. Harpreet terms this as 'Convergent Design' to create hybrid substrates and bionic materials that lend themselves for future ecological machinery, sensing systems and interaction design. Harpreet is an Assistant Professor of Interaction and Media Design at Parsons School of Design, New York. He also directs the Synthetic Ecosystems Lab that focusses on biological futures, their implications in interaction design, and the cybernetics of organisms and materials. Harpreet earned a graduate degree in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Lab and has previously lived and worked in the Austria, India, Japan, Singapore and USA. His experience spans corporate research wings, studios, museums to academic centers having previously worked at Google Creative Lab, Microsoft Research, MIT Media Lab, Ars Electronica Museum, National University of Singapore, Keio University and more. His projects are often a synergistic integration of robotics, software, electronics for prototype or final interactive experiences. Harpreet has previously been named as MIT Technology Review Under 35 Innovator (2013), awarded Genpact-NASSCOM National Social Innovation Honour and other recognitions from Microsoft. His academic work has been published at peer-reviewed conferences like CHI, UIST and HCI journals; and his artwork has been showcased at Beijing Biennale, Ars Electronica Festival, MIT Museum and more. He has also been invited to TEDx venues and lectures internationally in universities or innovation centers.
Use the search form below to find award-winning designers, brands, and more on the Design Business Directory.
Design Business Directory was founded on the principle that true design excellence cannot be measured by popularity alone. Instead, we believe that the most meaningful indicator of skill, creativity, and professionalism is official recognition by respected international juries who follow transparent, pre-established voting criteria. When a designer, architect, or creative agency enters a rigorous peer review process, one that evaluates submissions against clear quality benchmarks, ethical standards, and innovation requirements, it ensures that any accolades they receive are both credible and deserved and are meritocratic.
Peer-reviewed awards, such as the prestigious A’ Design Award, exist to showcase the very best in design and innovation. The A’ Design Award is judged by a balanced panel of experienced academics, influential press members, and established professionals, all of whom apply a thoroughly documented scoring system. Through this structured method of evaluation, only truly exceptional projects are recognized. This is precisely the level of excellence that Design Business Directory aims to highlight: forward-thinking professionals who have demonstrated mastery in their field according to objective, globally respected criteria.
Because we are committed to presenting only the cream of the crop in design, Design Business Directory accepts listings exclusively from those who have proven themselves in such distinguished competitions. By requiring at least one peer-reviewed award—namely, the A’ Design Award—as a prerequisite for inclusion, we maintain the authenticity and overall quality of the directory. Consequently, to be listed on Design Business Directory, you must have already won the A’ Design Award. This ensures every individual and studio showcased here operates at the highest tier of professional accomplishment, innovation, and credibility.
